Parsippany residents gathered on April 22, 2023, for an Earth Day Clean Up event themed “Invest in our Planet. ” Organized by Noah Lustig, a graduate of Parsippany High School, the initiative aimed to clean the Boonton Reservoir and downtown Lake Hiawatha. Participants met at Smith Field before heading out to various local sites. Mayor Barberio expressed gratitude to volunteers, emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship and community pride. Earth Day, first celebrated in 1970, now mobilizes over 1 billion individuals across more than 193 countries in support of environmental protection.

The event reflects a growing awareness of sustainability's role in enhancing local ecosystems and fostering community engagement.
