On September 2, Fausto Berrezueta Morquecho, 30, drowned in the Delaware River while swimming with family at Kittatinny Point. Rangers were dispatched at 4:10 p. m. when reports of the drowning emerged. Morquecho attempted to swim across the river but became exhausted and submerged in water reaching depths of 17 feet.

He was not wearing a life jacket, and despite rangers' efforts to rescue him, he did not survive. Park officials stress that river conditions can be deceptive, with strong currents and sudden obstacles presenting dangers. They recommend that all visitors wear properly fitted, U. S.

Coast Guard-approved life jackets while swimming, fishing, or boating. This incident underscores the importance of water safety measures to prevent future tragedies.
