Parsippany Teen Arrested in Seaside Park Indicted for Fatal Crash

Abel Mathukutty, 18, has been indicted for vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on Route 37 in Toms River on May 24, 2025. The collision killed Deborah Barone, 59, and injured her husband, Michael Barone, 64. Mathukutty's Infiniti sedan struck the Barones' Mercedes, which then crashed into a utility pole. Deborah Barone was transported to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries, while Michael Barone was treated and released. Police arrested Mathukutty in Seaside Park after locating his damaged vehicle, which had deployed airbags and significant damage.

Investigators revealed Mathukutty was speeding at 76 mph in a 50 mph zone during the incident. The case highlights ongoing issues of reckless driving and public safety on New Jersey roads. The indictment marks a critical step in the legal proceedings as the case moves to Ocean County Superior Court.
