Rockaway Meadow School PTA Set to Unveil Vibrant New Mural to Celebrate Community and Diversity

The Rockaway Meadow School PTA unveiled a vibrant mural at Rockaway Meadow Elementary School to celebrate community and diversity. Local artist Cynthia Balajadia designed the 35-foot mural, which features over 200 hand-painted rainbow hearts and children playing among its branches. PTA President Darlene Taylor expressed that the mural represents the rich diversity of the school and is a lasting gift for future generations. Principal Juan Cruz highlighted the school’s representation of 14 countries and 19 languages, emphasizing the message of kindness and understanding embedded in the mural. The PTA fully funded the project through extensive fundraising efforts, showcasing their commitment to enhancing the educational experience.

Students have reacted positively, with many excitedly recognizing themselves in the mural’s imagery. Balajadia stated, “It shows that our differences are not only what makes us special but also what can bring us together in celebration and friendship. ” This initiative aims to inspire positivity and foster a welcoming environment for all students at Rockaway Meadow.
