In addition to his legal achievements, DeRienzo has dedicated over 15 years to the Parsippany–Troy Hills Fire Department, where he held leadership positions. Governor Phil Murphy nominated him to address judicial vacancies, and he succeeds Judge Rosemary E. Ramsay.
