GoFundMe Launched to Support Family of Tow Truck Driver Killed on Route 287

On July 2, a tragic accident on southbound Route 287 in Morris County resulted in the death of 24-year-old tow truck operator Daniel Ortiz. As he assisted a disabled vehicle, a Jeep SUV struck him around 11:42 a. m. in Harding Township. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Ortiz did not survive his injuries.

His family is receiving support through a GoFundMe campaign launched by Ron and Sons Towing, which has raised more than $37,725. The company's Facebook post emphasized the need for drivers to slow down and move over for roadside assistance workers. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding driver negligence and safety for those working on highways. New Jersey State Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Community members are encouraged to contribute to the fundraiser to help Ortiz's grieving family.
