WA power companies prepare to help people left in the dark following windy night

Olympia, WALocal News

As strong winds sweep across western Washington, Tacoma Power and Puget Sound Energy (PSE) are taking proactive measures to prepare for potential power outages. Utility crews are on standby, ready to respond quickly to restore power if needed. Melanie Coon, Media Team Leader at PSE, stresses the importance of having emergency supplies, such as flashlights and batteries, readily available for residents. The recent heavy rains have left the ground saturated, increasing the likelihood of trees uprooting in high winds. Homeowners are advised to secure outdoor items and unplug sensitive electronics to protect against power surges.

Both power companies have been conducting preventive maintenance, including tree trimming and line inspections, to mitigate damage. Jim Boyd from Tacoma Power highlights the readiness of their crews and equipment to tackle any outages that may arise. With the forecast indicating higher winds in certain areas, vigilance and preparedness are key for residents as the storm approaches.
