Alleged speed racer charged with homicide after deadly crash in Lancaster County police
Charles Mitchell IV, 23, faces serious charges, including homicide and speed racing, stemming from a fatal crash in Lancaster County on April 30. Northwest Regional Police responded to the scene at the intersection of Turnpike Road and Bossler Road, where they discovered a black Subaru and a red Toyota Rav 4. The driver of the Toyota, 55-year-old Elena Murariu, was critically injured and later died at Lancaster General Hospital. Evidence revealed that Mitchell recorded himself driving at speeds of at least 111 mph just moments before the crash, which he subsequently deleted. Investigators noted that there are stop signs at the intersection, and the Subaru driver claimed that the Toyota pulled out in front of him.
Mitchell's bail is set at $900,000, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 16. This case raises significant concerns about reckless driving and the legal consequences of such behavior. Local authorities are likely to review traffic enforcement policies in response to the incident.
