This week, Oakland prepares for a series of Juneteenth celebrations, culminating in a large outdoor festival at Lake Merritt. The festival, featuring DJs Ice Cold, Slowpoke, and local artists, is a focal point for the community to celebrate Black culture. The 6th annual Lakefest Oakland will occur on Saturday, offering family activities, food vendors, and live performances from artists like Mistah F. A. B.

and Kamaiyah. A Juke Joint party at Wolfe Pack Studios will honor Black culture and history, inspired by the film "Sinners," with live music and a 1920s-1930s dress code encouraged. The Grown Women Dance Collective will present "Surviving Long Covid: I’m. Still. Here," emphasizing the struggles of Long Covid survivors through dance.

This performance will include safety measures, such as providing N95 masks to attendees. These events not only celebrate Juneteenth but also highlight Oakland's ongoing commitment to cultural expression and community health. The diverse programming showcases local talent and addresses significant social issues within the community.
