Oakland Police Department Holding DUI Checkpoint

Oakland, CALocal News

The Oakland Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on June 10, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 3:00 am at an undisclosed location. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance public safety by targeting impaired drivers based on data showing increased incidents of related crashes. Lt. Tim Dolan emphasized the significant risks posed by impaired drivers, stating, “Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk. ” First-time DUI offenders face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.

The funding for this checkpoint comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, which aims to reduce impaired driving incidents statewide. The Oakland Police Department reminds the public that impairment can result from alcohol, prescription medications, and over-the-counter drugs, as well as marijuana. This checkpoint reflects ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents resulting from impaired driving. Community awareness and participation are crucial in achieving the goal of safer roads for all.
