Family attorney Michelle Bernard condemned the systemic inequalities in law enforcement, stating that Boomer would still be alive in a wealthier neighborhood. Tynesha Boomer described her brother as the "glue" of their family and a committed community builder at Castlemont High School. Woodruff, his partner, shared her physical injuries from the incident and spoke of her emotional pain. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee lamented the tragedy, emphasizing the need for community action to create safer streets.

She called on individuals to honor Boomer's legacy by supporting young people. The service reflected a deep sense of grief and anger over the senseless loss of life. Boomer's family and community members expressed their desire for change and justice following this tragedy.
