Oakland resident sues Trump administration over revoked UC Berkeley student visa
Zhuoer Chen, an Oakland resident and master’s student at UC Berkeley, is among four Chinese international students suing the Trump administration over the abrupt cancellation of their visas. The legal complaint, filed in the U. S. District Court for Northern California, argues that the U. S.
Department of Homeland Security violated their constitutional rights by terminating their visas without a clear explanation or the opportunity to appeal. Chen, who focused her studies on urban design and wildlife habitat preservation, was on track to graduate in May. The lawsuit emphasizes that at least 901 international students across the country have faced similar visa terminations, with many alleging a lack of due process. Chen's situation is particularly dire as she risks losing a job offer due to her legal status being revoked. A hearing is set for Monday to seek an injunction to halt the termination of the students' records.
The complaint also highlights that some affected students had previous arrests but were never charged with any offenses. This case underscores broader concerns regarding the treatment of international students in the U. S.
