Baltic Kiss closes after turbulent few months

Oakland, CALocal News

The Baltic Kiss, a popular restaurant, bar, and music venue in Point Richmond, has officially closed its doors after facing a tumultuous beginning to 2025. Owners Tony Carracci and Suzie Vasko struggled with substantial financial issues, including a reported $30,000 in back rent and employee complaints regarding unpaid wages. In an attempt to recover, the venue initiated a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise $100,000, but only managed to collect $11,661. Despite some community support and efforts to stabilize the business, including hiring a talent broker, the establishment could not meet its financial obligations. Property manager Daniel Butt confirmed that the Contra Costa Sheriff posted an eviction notice on April 17, highlighting the venue's lack of insurance and unpaid utility bills.

A former employee, Casé DaMoude, filed a complaint with the California Labor Commission for unpaid wages, further complicating the situation. The closure announcement on the venue's website thanked the community for its support over the past two and a half years, marking a significant loss for local live music enthusiasts. Butt expressed hopes of leasing the property to continue its legacy as a music venue, emphasizing its historical importance in the East Bay.
