Oakland, CALocal News

Kymberly Miller's leadership at Children’s Fairyland has led to exciting developments, including plans for the park’s 75th anniversary in 2025. However, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 forced a shift in her initial strategies, leading to collaboration with other cultural institutions like the Oakland Zoo and the Oakland Museum. This partnership resulted in the exhibit "Fairyland @ 75: A Legacy of Magic," which showcases the park's vibrant history through artifacts and interactive displays. Executive directors Kymberly Miller and Lori Fogarty emphasized the unique cultural collaboration within Oakland. Curated by longtime puppet theater director Randal Metz and Shannon Taylor, the exhibit features items like a lifetime pass from Metz's collection and a classic Jolly Trolly car for visitors to explore.

The display narrates Fairyland's evolution from 1950 to the present, capturing the imagination of visitors. Both Metz and Taylor expressed their deep emotional connections to the park, highlighting its role as a source of inspiration and joy. The exhibit is open until December 7, providing a platform for the community to celebrate this beloved local treasure.
