Community Tips Help OPD Interrupt Illegal Drug Activity

Oakland, CALocal News

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) has made strides in addressing illegal drug activity through community collaboration, resulting in a significant arrest. On April 10, 2025, officers from the Special Resource Section (SRS) West apprehended an individual in the vicinity of 14th Street and Madison Street after observing them with a large quantity of marijuana. A subsequent search of two vehicles linked to the suspect revealed not only drugs but also a firearm equipped with a high-capacity magazine and cash. This operation underscores the crucial role that community members play in reporting suspicious activities, ultimately aiding law enforcement efforts. OPD emphasizes its commitment to proactive policing, aimed at reducing violent crime and ensuring the safety of Oakland residents.

The department urges citizens to report illegal drug activities confidentially via the OPD’s Drug Hotline at (510) 238-DRUG (3784). Such community engagement is vital for fostering a safer environment. OPD plans to continue its efforts to enhance public safety and prevent violence through ongoing collaborative initiatives.
