This gift box hopes to help change the negative narrative about Oakland

Oakland, CALocal News

Nicole Vasgerdsian and Kim Bardakian, both longtime Oakland residents, have launched "Town Love," a curated gift box aimed at reshaping the negative perception of their city. The idea emerged as a response to the continuous stream of pessimistic headlines about Oakland, and the duo hopes to highlight the positive aspects of the community. The gift box features six products from local businesses, along with experiences such as tickets to an Oakland Roots game, and includes a map and tote bag to promote local exploration. Vasgerdsian, who is also a designer, created the box's packaging, while Bardakian leveraged her public relations skills to engage with local businesses and residents. The launch event, held on September 18, was filled with positivity and showcased the vibrant community spirit of Oakland.

The two friends emphasize the importance of representing all neighborhoods and the diversity of business owners in their offerings. Their initiative not only supports small businesses recovering from the pandemic but also serves as a reminder of the great things happening in Oakland. Through "Town Love," they invite others to taste, learn, and explore the richness of their city.
