On August 28, 2024, Oakland Police Department officers from the Special Resource Section East demonstrated their commitment to public safety by seizing multiple loaded firearms, including an AK-47 and an AR-15. The officers were on patrol when they observed an individual running from a group, attempting to hide what appeared to be a rifle. Although the suspect managed to evade capture, the officers promptly recovered four firearms abandoned in the area of 71st Avenue and Hamilton Street. This successful operation underscores the importance of proactive policing in addressing the presence of illegal firearms and reducing violent crime in Oakland.
