Suspects in Skyline High School shooting had ghost guns, police say

Oakland, CALocal News

The Oakland Police Department confirmed the arrest of two juvenile suspects involved in a shooting at Skyline High School, where a 15-year-old victim is recovering well. Officers reached the scene within two minutes and rendered immediate medical assistance. Both suspects were found with ghost guns, which are untraceable firearms made from kits. Principal Rebecca Huang highlighted the effective coordination between school staff and police, which ensured student safety during the incident. A town meeting will be held for Skyline families to discuss safety measures with school and police officials.

This shooting marks the third lockdown at Skyline this year, following earlier incidents that involved a false firearm report and a confrontation with a parent. Skyline has faced several violent events in recent years, raising concerns about campus safety. OUSD's interim superintendent stated that the district is exploring ways to improve security and provide support to students and staff.
