Heavy rainfall causes flooding, backups on Bay Area roadways

Oakland, CALocal News

Heavy rainfall caused significant disruptions in the Bay Area on Monday night, leading to flooding on South Bay roads and stranding numerous vehicles, including rideshare cars like Ubers and Lyfts. Firefighters and tow trucks were deployed to assist drivers trapped on the 880 on-ramp from Airport Boulevard amidst the flooding. ABC7 News Meteorologist Sandhya Patel noted that some areas experienced nearly 3 inches of rain as a Level 2 storm moved through the region. Residents in Calistoga reported high winds and concerns about debris in the river but found no major issues related to burn scars from the recent Pickett Fire. Local visitors expressed their surprise at the unexpected weather during their anniversary celebrations.

Mayor Donald Williams reassured that the city remained stable despite the heavy rain. A six-year-old visitor, Ayan Hall, advised others to stay indoors to avoid the rain. As temperatures dipped into the low 50s, the weather prompted mixed reactions among residents and visitors alike.
