Law enforcement shoot into truck at Oakland immigration protest

Oakland, CALocal News

Law enforcement officers shot at a U-Haul rental van in Oakland after it allegedly reversed toward them during an immigration protest at Coast Guard Island. According to the Coast Guard, the vehicle's erratic driving prompted officers to issue multiple commands for it to stop, which the driver ignored. The FBI confirmed that two individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries, with one of them identified as a subject of interest and currently in custody after being released from the hospital. The Department of Homeland Security stated that the truck driver was wounded and undergoing a mental health evaluation. Protests erupted at the scene earlier in the day against the Trump administration's planned immigration enforcement actions, which were later paused following Trump's discussions with local leaders.

Hundreds of demonstrators remained at the site, voicing their opposition to federal policies. Local authorities, including the Oakland Police Department, are assisting the FBI in securing the shooting scene. The investigation remains active, with no additional details released at this time.
