First Hardly Strictly, then the Kennedy Center this group of young Oakland musicians is grabbing the spotlight

Oakland, CALocal News

August Lee Stevens, B DeVeaux, and Naima Nascimento are rehearsing for the "Oakland Grown: Student Art & Music Festival" on October 18, showcasing their talents as part of the Oakland Rising collective. Founded by Phil Green under the nonprofit Follow the Music, the collective aims to support young musicians seeking exposure. Collaborating with local organizations has allowed the group to perform at various venues, including the Kennedy Center. Green noted that many talented young artists struggle without adequate support. The trio, all connected through the Oakland School for the Arts, has built a strong musical rapport.

Stevens is a classical pianist, DeVeaux began writing music at three, and Nascimento has been immersed in music since childhood. Their performance at Hardly Strictly last year led to increased opportunities. This momentum highlights the growing recognition of Oakland's emerging music scene.
