Beloved Berkeley staple Rick Anns is closing up shop

Rick & Ann’s, a cherished breakfast and brunch establishment in Berkeley, will close its doors on August 30th after more than three decades of service. Known for its signature orange rice flour pancakes and cheesy potato pancakes, the restaurant has been a fixture at 2922 Domingo Ave. since 1989. Owner Ann Lauer, who announced the closure on the restaurant's website, expressed joy in witnessing generations of families enjoy their meals at the restaurant. She has decided not to renew the lease as she prepares for retirement.

Throughout its operation, Rick & Ann's has supported numerous local charities and community events, solidifying its role in the Berkeley community. While the restaurant will no longer serve patrons, Lauer will continue her culinary legacy through Ann’s Catering, which will relocate to a commercial kitchen. This move ensures that a part of Rick & Ann's spirit remains in the community. The closure marks the end of an era for many loyal customers who have cherished their experiences at this iconic establishment.
