Temple nightclub group buys historic Oakland Greyhound station

Oakland, CALocal News

The Hemming Family Trust recently acquired the historic Greyhound bus station in Oakland for $2. 3 million, indicating a significant redevelopment project on the horizon. Paul Hemming, known for operating the Temple nightclub since 2007, aims to transform the site into a retail, entertainment, and housing complex. While current plans do not include a dance hall, Hemming’s background in nightlife suggests future possibilities. Renovations will be phased, with enhancements to facilities and the addition of a new kitchen and bar.

Axis Architecture, which has experience in both affordable and luxury projects, has been engaged for the development, although specific details are not yet available. Cory Creath, an Axis principal, emphasized the importance of community engagement during the planning process. The Greyhound station, a once-celebrated architectural gem, deteriorated over the years and was closed in 2021 due to declining bus travel. Prior to its sale, the property briefly became a venue for underground raves, highlighting its complex history.
