The Oaklandside is piloting a new podcast to keep you Oakland-savvy
The Oaklandside has launched Oaklandside 510, a new weekly podcast aimed at delivering essential local news and insights to Oakland residents. Each 15-minute episode will air every Friday for the next three months, featuring a roundup of the week’s most pressing stories. In the first episode, the focus is on Mayor Barbara Lee’s response to President Trump’s massive budget bill, highlighting its potential effects on the city's most vulnerable populations. Editors and reporters will engage in deeper conversations, providing context that complements online articles. The podcast also invites community participation, encouraging residents to share their stories about meaningful social spaces.
This pilot series will consist of ten episodes, with the intention of making it a regular feature if successful. Editor-in-chief Tasneem Raja emphasizes the goal of enhancing audience engagement through additional context and analysis. Support for the podcast will be sought after the pilot run to ensure ongoing coverage of Oakland stories.
