Thousands gathered in Oakland for one of the largest Juneteenth celebrations in the Bay Area, enjoying a vibrant atmosphere filled with music, food, and activities for children. The event highlighted the ongoing significance of freedom and the contributions of the Black community in the United States. Local resident Mildred Thompson described the celebration as a tribute to the legacy of Black Americans, stating, "we have existed in this country that we have helped to build. " Kalu Gebreyohannes-Royster added that the event was beautiful, energetic, and joyful. The Oakland Museum of California has a long history of commemorating Juneteenth, emphasizing themes of joy, resilience, and liberation.

Fern Stroud, who represents Black Vines Winery, noted the importance of creating a communal space for celebration. This year's event drew several thousand attendees, reinforcing the significance of Juneteenth as a national holiday established in 2021. Oakland's rich history of activism adds depth to its Juneteenth celebrations.
