Oakland soccer gets permanent home at former Raiders training facility
Oakland's soccer teams secured a permanent training facility through a 15-year lease agreement with Redco Development at the former Raiders training site in Alameda. City officials announced the finalization of the deal, which follows a previous attempt that collapsed last year when ProLogis withdrew from purchasing the facility. Club President Lindsay Barenz thanked former Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan for her vital role in the transaction. The facility includes a performance center with indoor training facilities and 5 acres of sports fields, plus a 100,000 square-foot headquarters office building. Mayor Barbara Lee expressed excitement about the deal, emphasizing its significance for the community and the soccer teams.
The sale price is $24 million, but Oakland will only receive about $11. 7 million, with the remainder going to Alameda County. City officials indicated that the revenue has already been incorporated into the budget, though the allocation year remains uncertain. The deal represents a critical step in building a sustainable future for the Oakland Roots and Soul Soccer Club.
