PulsePoint Arrives in Island County

Oak Harbor, WALocal News

Island County has launched PulsePoint, a life-saving mobile app that alerts users to nearby cardiac arrests, allowing for immediate CPR assistance. This innovative app utilizes location-based technology akin to AMBER alerts, notifying users only in public spaces, which is crucial for timely intervention. Dr. Krystal Baciak, the Medical Program Director, expressed excitement about this community partnership aimed at improving bystander CPR and defibrillation access. Retired Fire Lieutenant Derek Stabell emphasized the dire importance of prompt action, stating that every minute lost decreases survival rates significantly.

I-COM 9-1-1 Executive Director Sofia Kohfield remarked on the joint effort to empower residents to become PulsePoint responders, enhancing community awareness and safety. The initiative was made possible through grant funding and contributions from the Island County Fire Chiefs Association. This program aligns Island County with other regions in Western Washington that have adopted PulsePoint, reflecting a growing commitment to public health and safety. The free app is available for download on both iOS and Android platforms, making it accessible to a wide audience.
