New Utility Box Art Honors City's History
Newcastle, Washington, recently launched a new public art installation, a utility box wrap titled _Heritage Glow_, situated at the intersection of Coal Creek Parkway and Newcastle Golf Course Road. The artwork, created by local artist Dee Reagan, symbolizes the rich coal-mining heritage of the area, aiming to evoke warmth and pride in the community's history. Notably, the design includes a hidden sasquatch, inviting viewers to engage more deeply with the mural. Edward Flash, Co-President of the Newcastle Arts Council, expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting how art can uplift community spaces and foster local pride. This initiative resulted from a partnership between the Newcastle Arts Council and the City of Newcastle, highlighting their dedication to integrating art into everyday life.
Funding for the project was provided by both organizations, underscoring the collaborative effort to celebrate local history. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore this vibrant addition to Newcastle’s landscape. The installation not only beautifies the area but also serves as a reminder of the traditions and sacrifices that shaped the community.
