Minneapolis City Council candidate discovers real identity behind fake campaign site
The state Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board dismissed Becka Thompson's complaint against the satirical news outlet Wedge Live, citing a lack of probable cause. Thompson accused Wedge Live of creating a fake campaign website, which claimed she was running in an inexistent ward to mislead voters. The board found no evidence linking Wedge Live creator John Edwards or contributor Taylor Dahlin to the website, labeling the complaint as “baseless. ” The identity of the actual domain holder was revealed to be Naomi Wilson, a volunteer assisting the homeless. Thompson expressed her frustration, stating that the website's existence impedes her campaign.
Dahlin described the complaint as "ghoulish," noting its inclusion of sensitive personal information. Edwards characterized the complaint as harassment and frivolous. This incident marks a broader trend of political figures targeting satirical news outlets in Minneapolis.
