Eight neighborhoods join forces to open Uptowns first farmers market
The Uptown Farmers Market opened on Thursday evening, marking a significant community effort to revitalize the historically vibrant Uptown area in Minneapolis. Organizer Amy Sanborn noted the market's importance in providing a safe space for residents to gather and support local businesses amid ongoing crime concerns. Held at Grand Avenue Plaza, the market features around 25 vendors, including vegetable farmers, food trucks, and artisans, all working to uplift the local economy. Nancy Hope, a vendor, shared her enthusiasm for launching her small business, emphasizing the positive changes in the neighborhood. The market operates every Thursday this summer from 4-8 p.
m. , with the venue generously provided free of charge by the property owner. Community meetings earlier this year drew significant attendance, highlighting residents' commitment to improving Uptown's future. Additionally, Metro Transit supported the initiative with promotional efforts at bus stops. This market not only serves to boost local commerce but also aims to restore the sense of safety and community that has been waning in the area.
