Ramstad Minneapolis Camden neighborhood is rising. Houston White wants to keep it that way.
On the fifth anniversary of George Floyd's murder, Houston White Jr. organized a community event at his coffee shop in north Minneapolis to foster dialogue about progress. Approximately 30 attendees participated, and White encouraged them to reflect on how they could collectively grow and invest in their community. He recalled the chaotic nights following Floyd's death, where he stood guard at his shop, and expressed his commitment to transforming pain into purpose. White's personal experiences of loss, including the deaths of his wife and sister, further motivate his efforts to create a supportive environment in the Camden neighborhood.
The event featured fried fish, music, and art, symbolizing resilience and unity among the community. White's influential role as a real estate developer and culture maker positions him as a key figure in the neighborhood's evolution. He expressed hope that by 2030, significant positive change could be achieved. White’s connection to the community is deeply personal, as he reflects on how the loss of Floyd and his loved ones informs his mission.
