Feds say new Feeding Our Future suspect nabbed at Twin Cities airport trying to flee country

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

Federal authorities arrested Hibo Daar, 50, at the Twin Cities airport as she attempted to flee to the Middle East amid a fraud investigation. She faces a wire fraud charge linked to a $250 million scheme involving the Feeding Our Future organization, which was intended to provide meals for low-income children. Prosecutors allege that Daar and co-conspirators diverted federal funds to purchase luxury items rather than serving the intended meals. Feeding Our Future oversaw nearly 300 food-distribution sites, where employees allegedly inflated meal counts using fake attendance sheets and phony invoices. As the executive director of the Northside Wellness Center, Daar claimed to have served hundreds of thousands of meals daily, a claim prosecutors dispute by noting the consistency in reported meal counts.

Numerous individuals involved in the scheme, including the organization’s leader Aimee Bock, have already faced convictions. This case highlights ongoing efforts to combat fraud in pandemic-related programs. The outcome may influence future oversight of federal reimbursement programs for food assistance.
