Four years after granddaughters murder, Minneapolis activist and other families continue to push for justice

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

Activist K. G. Wilson led a memorial for his granddaughter Aniya Allen, marking four years since her tragic death from a stray bullet in north Minneapolis. Approximately 50 attendees gathered at Lakewood Cemetery, participating in prayers, performances, and a balloon release to honor the young girl. Wilson voiced his ongoing sadness and frustration, questioning the lack of accountability for the crime.

Minneapolis police Cmdr. Richard Zimmerman attended the event, highlighting the department's continued efforts to seek justice for Aniya and other victims of gun violence. Despite a $180,000 reward announced in 2021 for information leading to an arrest, the case remains unsolved. Other families affected by gun violence joined the memorial, expressing solidarity in their grief and commitment to combatting violence in their community. Wilson noted that while there has been a reported decline in shootings in 2024, the level of violence remains unacceptable.

Attendees were encouraged to report any information to Crime Stoppers to aid in solving these cases.
