Man arrested, charged in last of 6 killings during a 20-hour span last week in Minneapolis

Mickiah Latrell Jackson, 39, has been charged with second-degree murder and illegal gun possession for allegedly shooting Derrick Ewing, 51, in Minneapolis on April 30. This incident is part of a violent 20-hour period that claimed six lives in the city. Jackson, arrested on May 6, remains in custody with bail set at $1 million. His extensive criminal history includes convictions for manslaughter, robbery, and multiple illegal gun possession charges. Law enforcement is exploring possible gang connections to the shootings, which began with five individuals shot in a vehicle on April 29.

James Duane Ortley has also been charged with four counts of murder related to that initial shooting. Chief Brian O'Hara highlighted the need for urgency and dedication in addressing these violent incidents. Witnesses reported Jackson robbed Ewing before shooting him, raising concerns about drug-related violence in the area.
