Minneapolis fire displaces 13 people, 1 cat

On Friday night, a fire at a south Minneapolis triplex displaced 13 individuals, including eight adults and five children. The Minneapolis Fire Department (MFD) indicated that the fire was sparked by an exploding electrical cord, as reported by the residents. Fire crews were dispatched to the 3700 block of 1st Ave. South at approximately 11:23 p. m.

, where they observed smoke coming from the basement windows. Thankfully, all residents had managed to evacuate safely, and a cat that was initially missing was later found and revived with oxygen. Firefighters successfully contained the fire to the lower level of the home, but the damage rendered the residence uninhabitable. Consequently, the Red Cross was called in to provide assistance to the displaced families. No injuries were reported, but the official cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This incident highlights the critical importance of electrical safety and the swift response of local fire services.
