Shooting after 21 Days of Peace barbecue in Minneapolis injures security guard
A shooting incident that unfolded in north Minneapolis following a community barbecue organized by the violence prevention group 21 Days of Peace left a security guard injured. The Minneapolis police responded to a ShotSpotter activation around 9:37 p. m. on Monday, where they located a man in his 30s suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim had driven himself to a nearby location to meet officers after the shooting.
Evidence of gunfire was also discovered inside a home on Penn Avenue North, where a child was present but fortunately unharmed. Rev. Jerry McAfee, a representative of 21 Days of Peace, reported that the shooting occurred as the group was wrapping up the event, with some men emerging from an alley to open fire. A security guard, who was wearing a bulletproof vest and legally permitted to carry a weapon, returned fire and sustained injuries. The police have not shared details about the events leading to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing with no arrests made as of yet.
Minneapolis officials clarified that 21 Days of Peace does not have a current contract for violence prevention work with the city.
