City seeks community feedback on Peoples Way applicants
Minneapolis is committed to community engagement as it seeks feedback on the applications from four non-profit organizations vying to redevelop the Peoples’ Way site at George Floyd Square. The city recently held a community event at Sabathani Community Center where residents could meet the applicants and provide feedback, with video recordings of the presentations now accessible online. Two additional pop-up events are planned for March, allowing further opportunities for public engagement. An online survey will collect community input until March 21, emphasizing the importance of local voices in the decision-making process. City staff will compile this feedback and present recommendations to the City Council and mayor, who are expected to make a selection in May.
The review criteria will focus on the applicants' ability to operate with a community-centered mission. Once a decision is made, the city will collaborate with the selected organization to develop a comprehensive plan for the site. This initiative underscores the city's dedication to inclusive development and community involvement in shaping local spaces.
