City of Minneapolis launches StoryCorps Studios Partnership

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

The City of Minneapolis has launched "Minneapolis Your Story," a collaboration with StoryCorps Studios to archive community narratives that focus on racial healing and equity. This initiative encourages residents to record and share their personal experiences, addressing critical issues such as racial discrimination and the impact of George Floyd's murder. Mayor Jacob Frey emphasized the importance of conversation in fostering connections and healing within the community. Racial Equity Director Prince Corbett noted that storytelling can reveal the common threads that unite individuals in the fight for justice. The project will culminate in a community listening session, allowing residents and leaders to engage with selected recordings and promote dialogue.

Participants will have access to their recorded stories, which will also be preserved in the national StoryCorps archive, enhancing the narrative surrounding racial issues. This initiative not only seeks to empower individuals but also aims to inform the city's ongoing racial equity efforts. By bridging divides through shared experiences, Minneapolis hopes to foster a culture of understanding and compassion.
