Lakeville man who co-owned faux food site in Feeding Our Future case sentenced to year of probation
Khadar Adan was sentenced to a year of probation for his involvement in a $250 million fraud scheme associated with Feeding Our Future. U. S. District Judge Nancy Brasel issued the sentence, acknowledging Adan's lesser role compared to other defendants. He pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government property, admitting to running a fake food site from his business center and accepting $1,000 in fraudulent proceeds.
Adan must also pay $1,000 in restitution as part of his sentencing. The Feeding Our Future case has resulted in 50 guilty pleas among 75 defendants, revealing a scheme that falsely claimed to serve meals to children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prosecutors noted that only a small percentage of the claimed 70,000 meals were actually distributed. Co-defendant Liban Yasin Alishire was heavily involved, receiving over $1. 6 million from the scheme.
Adan's attorney highlighted that his client's role was significantly smaller than that of other defendants.
