After 2-month lull, Minneapolis hit by resurgence in smash-and-grab vehicle vandalism, theft

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

Minneapolis police reported a dramatic rise in vehicle vandalism, with 124 smash-and-grab incidents occurring from Thursday to Monday. The most affected areas include E. 35th Street and 24th Avenue S. , where 30 vehicles were vandalized. Ricardo Lozano, a local resident, described witnessing the break-in of his Cadillac SUV, which resulted in the theft of his sunglasses.

Despite the surge in vandalism, police have yet to make any arrests but are pursuing leads based on witness descriptions. Authorities emphasize the importance of immediate reporting by residents to help identify suspects. This resurgence follows a two-month period of relative calm, during which over 500 vehicles were broken into in various neighborhoods. Many residents have faced repeated break-ins, raising concerns about safety and property security. The Minneapolis Police Department continues to urge the public to report suspicious activity.
