Jimi Jimi Jimi, known as the unofficial polka ambassador of the Twin Cities, captivates audiences at Oktoberfest events while sporting a pirate costume. Initially James Parker, he transitioned from a cabinet-making career to dance instruction after outsourcing led to the closure of his shop. Interested in Latin American culture, he learned various dance styles, including cumbia and salsa, before becoming a dance instructor at the Social Dance Studio in Minneapolis. His pirate persona began at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, where he was dubbed a "polka dancing pirate. " Jimi now teaches dance classes five days a week, peaking during the Oktoberfest season when he performs at multiple events.
His classes emphasize fun and connection, earning him recognition as a skilled instructor. Eryn Tvete, an office manager at the Germanic-American Institute, noted his encouraging spirit. Through his efforts, Jimi aims to keep polka music vibrant and engaging for all.
