Minneapolis delivery driver charged in theft of packages worth thousands

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

Khang Huu Hoang, a 25-year-old delivery driver in Minneapolis, faces theft charges after allegedly stealing over $6,000 worth of merchandise, including a 50-inch TV and multiple vacuums. Prosecutors charged Hoang with theft by swindling following his arrest on October 2, with his first court appearance scheduled for October 27. The investigation began when police responded to a package theft in August, leading to the discovery of surveillance footage showing Hoang delivering and then stealing a vacuum. Between July 25 and September 17, he was responsible for delivering packages valued at over $16,500 that were reported missing in the Twin Cities. Officers found the stolen items in Hoang’s apartment, highlighting a troubling trend of package thefts affecting Minnesotans.

Bloomington police recently arrested another suspected porch pirate, indicating a broader issue of package theft in the region. Law enforcement encourages residents to adopt preventive measures to protect their deliveries, such as prompt mail pickup and requesting signature confirmations for valuable packages. The rise in thefts coincides with a national surge in mail theft, with a reported 161% increase between March 2020 and February 2021.
