Aunt Mona’s Bakery will showcase its creations at the Cake Picnic in Minneapolis on October 4, celebrating Betty Crocker’s 104th birthday. The event, organized by Elisa Sunga, will take place at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with 500 to 600 attendees expected. Participants will bring their cakes to share, adhering to the rule “No Cake, No Entry. ” Micheli Vazquez, who uses they/them pronouns, plans to incorporate flavors like coconut and guava into their cake, reflecting their Puerto Rican heritage. Sunga launched the Cake Picnic tour in 2024, fostering connections through cake-making in cities worldwide.

This particular event holds special significance for Sunga, who grew up using Betty Crocker mixes. Vazquez emphasized the opportunity to represent both themselves and their bakery at the event. The Cake Picnic aims to inspire bakers of all levels, making cake making less intimidating and more accessible.
