Annunciation Catholic School will host some campus activities this week
Annunciation Catholic Church and School will resume some on-campus activities starting Tuesday, following a mass shooting on August 27 that resulted in two fatalities and numerous injuries. The school will implement a shortened week of activities focused on support, connection, and play, while ensuring a visible security presence on campus. Last week, nearly 20 preschoolers returned with their parents, signaling the beginning of the community's healing process. Support services from the Washburn Center for Children and the Minnesota Department of Education will be available to assist both students and staff during this transition. The school's leadership emphasized a commitment to creating a safe environment for all, acknowledging that community members may heal at different paces.
The church and school have not yet clarified their plans beyond this week, pending further evaluation of the situation. Funeral services for the victims, including 10-year-old Harper Moyski, were held recently, underscoring the community's grief. As activities resume, leaders hope to better understand the next steps for the coming weeks.
