Family identifies driver who allegedly ran red light, died in downtown Minneapolis crash

Ariel Larice Mitchell, 34, tragically died early Sunday morning after her car collided with another vehicle in downtown Minneapolis. Witnesses reported that she allegedly ran a red light, leading to the crash near U. S. Bank Plaza and Capella Tower. Her family described her as a beloved mother and friend, sharing their heartbreak in a public statement.

A memorial at the intersection featured candles, flowers, and balloons commemorating her life. The crash occurred around 3:15 a. m. , and police indicated that speed was a contributing factor. Mitchell's passenger, also a woman in her 30s, suffered noncritical injuries.

As of Thursday, authorities have not disclosed the identities of the occupants in the other vehicle. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding traffic safety in urban areas.
