Minneapolis Park Police officers gun was holstered when man fired it during scuffle, charges say
Officer Daniel McShane, 71, was wounded in the arm during a struggle with suspect Tazrick Tobias Nall, 28, who wrested control of McShane's holstered gun in Mueller Park on Tuesday. Police responded to reports of Nall touching children when they attempted to detain him. The incident escalated into a scuffle, leading to Nall being charged with second-degree assault and disarming a peace officer. He remains in custody with a bail set at $100,000. McShane, a veteran officer with 37 years in law enforcement, is currently on paid administrative leave following the minor injury.
Nall expressed intentions to fire a warning shot during his confrontation with McShane, claiming the officer did not deserve to have a gun. Nall has a criminal history that includes multiple convictions and was on probation for a previous assault charge at the time of the incident. Judge Lisa Janzen had previously set aside a three-year prison sentence for Nall in favor of probation and mental health treatment.
