After three-year wait, neighbors cheer opening of Ds Banh Mi in south Minneapolis

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

D’s Banh Mi officially opened in south Minneapolis on Thursday, concluding a three-year journey marked by regulatory hurdles and a destructive fire. Owned by Hilda Tov and her three sons, the restaurant aims to offer fresh Vietnamese cuisine in a neighborhood previously viewed as a banh mi desert. The Guenther family, among the first patrons, expressed their excitement after waiting for the opening since hearing about it during a block party. The restaurant’s path to opening included a delivery-only phase that heightened local anticipation. A car accident in January severely damaged the building, causing further delays.

Dyon Tran emphasized the family's dream of working together in a business, which was nearly thwarted by these setbacks. The menu features generous portions, including nonmeat options, appealing to a wide range of diners. As the community welcomes D’s Banh Mi, it reflects a growing demand for diverse culinary offerings in the area.
