Twin Cities teen gets 4 years in juvenile lockup for mans accidental fatal shooting

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

Abdihafed Mohamed Abdirisak, a Minneapolis teen, received a four-year juvenile detention sentence for the accidental shooting death of Ibrahim Faisal Dabarani, 20. Abdirisak pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, with the prosecution agreeing not to charge him as an adult, which would have resulted in a longer prison term. During the court proceedings, his defense attorney advocated for electronic home monitoring, explaining that Abdirisak was not familiar with firearms. Judge Julie Allyn accepted the argument that the shooting was accidental, but she pointed out Abdirisak's lack of remorse and the profound impact of the incident. The shooting occurred on February 28, 2025, when Abdirisak mishandled a gun while in a vehicle with Dabarani.

After being shot, Dabarani was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after midnight. Authorities subsequently located the vehicle involved and identified an 18-year-old driver who was present during the incident. The case raises concerns about youth access to firearms and accountability in tragic accidents.
