Park bench honors the memory of two Minneapolis girls, victims of an unsolved crime in 1963

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

A memorial bench was dedicated Saturday at French Regional Park in Plymouth to honor the memory of Melissa Ann Lee and Barbara Ann Foshaug, who were abducted and murdered in 1963. The bench features an inscription and was blessed during a memorial for Lynn Foshaug, Barbara’s brother, who died last December. Lynn was just 7 years old when his sister was taken, a traumatic event that has lingered in the community for decades. The installation was inspired by a Minnesota Star Tribune investigation that revisited the unsolved case, drawing interest from the public. Joy Roney, Melissa's aunt, collaborated with Park District Superintendent Boe Carlson to ensure a permanent tribute near where the girls' remains were found.

Rev. Larry Williams expressed hope that the memorial would provide strength to the grieving family. Colleen Duden, Lynn's daughter, attended the ceremony with her children, emphasizing the personal nature of the memorial. The bench serves as a poignant reminder of the unresolved tragedy that still affects the families involved.
