Man fatally shot in south Minneapolis, suspect arrested

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

A man in his 40s was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the Lyn-Lake neighborhood of south Minneapolis. Officers discovered the victim dead at the scene after responding to a shooting report shortly after 1 p. m. Witnesses reported that he was standing outside when a vehicle stopped, and an individual stepped out and shot him. Police arrested a suspect in his 20s, armed with a firearm, in a nearby location hours later.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara condemned the “brazen violence” of the shooting and urged anyone with information to assist investigators. This incident follows another shooting earlier that day in which a 27-year-old man was killed near East Phillips Park. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the earlier victim as Michael Alfred Johnson, who died from a gunshot wound to the torso. The recent surge in gun violence raises significant concerns among community members and law enforcement.
